The First
Never Said
Combining Jimmy Eat World and The Early November into an abridged American rock sound, The First stomp their way through ‘Never Said’ with plenty of energy. It’s a slick sound with very tight rhythms and some satisfyingly low-muted guitars mixing with some tidy distortion.
To sum up the rest of the single, ‘Tonight’ is the soppy one and ‘The Same Sky’ is the anthemic one. It’s a classic rock-triplet and they do them all well.
Whether you like this record or not will entirely depend on how you feel about this style, but even those who don’t really like it would have to grudgingly admit that The First are very, very good indeed.
