The Steers - Rewind Repeat

The Steers
Rewind Repeat

Winners of the Diesel U-Music award for 2007, The Steers have clearly made a good impression on a lot of people with the end result being this debut 7″ released on the ever-excellent Kids Records.

A youthful abandonment washes over everything here with gleeful guitars bustling for attention with the bluster of early Supergrass and the pure guitar noise of Blur at their most fantastically thrashy. Opening in a hail of drums, a burst of frazzled guitar (that’ll be Mr Coxon’s influence there for sure) fires ‘Rewind/Repeat’ along like racy sex with a new partner before collapsing for breath and brushing the hair off your face.

B-side ‘GO’ bolts the band’s template to a dancey Bloc Party-eqsue rhythm and finishes in an exhausted heap leaving the listener to wonder what on earth just happened. It’s singles like this that rekindle a person’s enthusiasm in new music – so energetic, like a bouncing puppy, that you can’t help but be swept away on a wave of sunshine indie pop goodness.

Full marks then for the Steers for now and here’s looking for plenty more where this came from.
