The Atomic Youth

The Atomic Youth are a North Somerset two-piece who play indie rock with a grunge swerve. ‘Kardashian’ is their first single and it provides a glimpse into the world of growing up in the modern South West.
The song is built on a stompy triplet-laden swing with growling guitars and sway in the beat. The vocal provides a grunge twist on a Tim Booth style indie vocal. A rare feature of debut is the attention paid to dynamics and the good use of rhythm.
The song is about ‘teenagers growing up in a heavily exaggerated world’ thanks to the images they see ‘on TV, on the radio, social media, the internet, magazines, and in advertising.’
There is certainly some room to polish, but it’s important not to clean away the good stuff as part of the good work. We don’t want another Grotte de Mayrières incident. The Atomic Youth are like a young Daisy Brain, with promising songwriting sensibilities.

Kardashian Lyrics
Another Friday night at home
Got nothing to do ’cause I’m all alone
And I got nowhere else to be
Apart from in front of my TV‘Cause everything I ever see
On my television screen
Is almost as fake as
The Kardashian family
And everything I ever read
Is next to something showing something I need
Is almost as fake as
The Kardashian familyAnd Satuarday’s the same again
Sunday just won’t end
Life is one more episode
Feels like my head’s gonna explode‘Cause everything I ever see
On my television screen
Is almost as fake as
The Kardashian family
And everything I ever read
Is next to something showing something I need
Is almost as fake as
The Kardashian familyAnd I don’t know what to do
Starting to miss you
And I just don’t know what to do
I just want to forget you‘Cause everything I ever see
On my television screen
Is almost as fake as
The Kardashian family
And everything I ever hear
Plastic noise through the ear
Is almost as fake as
The Kardashian familyIt’s Kylie Jenner
What’s Kylie Jenner’s name
It’s Kylie Jenner
What’s her name
