Though it’s traditional to point it that this is the first single since the last album, or we haven’t heard anything for a while… none of this applies as Garageband Superstar is on regular rotation at Phonotonal HQ. Yep. We’re huge Lauran Hibberd fans.
Despite never letting a week pass without a Hibbs track, ‘Honda Civic’ is welcome. A punchy cruncher of a track with a stompy chorus. It stays in the region of the album, but sounds really chunky. With the chorus leading things out, the subtle treatments keep it fresh right through the final lyric-switched rendition.
Lauran Hibberd certainly knows how to a write a song that combines witty lyricism with superbly catchy melodies.
What Honda Civic Is About
It’s a break-up song, with an extra slice of vitriolic “get back together” rejection. Reading between the lines, the Honda Civic isn’t the problem so much as the antogonist of the story, whose self-laid ink and band tee is failing to gloss over his personality defects.
Yes, you wouldn’t want a song like this written about you as it’s something of a brutal finishing move. That doesn’t stop it being another great anthem.
The video features karate dance moves and a really fun revenge plot storyline.
No honda’s or ex boyfriends were harmed in the making of this video.
