Mike Shinoda
Already Over
Jump to...
Described as a non-album single, ‘Already Over’ is a welcome return for Mike Shinoda. It’s a pacey rock song with guitars that buzz in the chorus.
I suppose the big question is where this fits in the Shinoda / Linkin Park / Fort Minor spectrum and I’ll knock this on the head right away. The song’s style reminds me most of Minutes To Midnight era LP, it has a similar rhythmic feel and the more spatial sound that made that album so great.
The song does its thing in a brief two minutes forty, but that’s enough time to win you over with cleverly arranged lyrics that provide a neat swing in the chorus.
The song’s theme is about a relationship being closed off. Like, totally closed off. Whoever the other party is, they seem oblivious to what they’ve done, but Mike sure can’t get past whatever happened and it’s already over. Yowch.
This song will reawaken fans’ calls for another Shinoda album. It’s an almost constant barrage of people asking what’s coming next, whether there’s a tour coming, and which projects are active. Shinoda simply says:
For me, it creates a bridge from the past to a blurry but exciting future.

Already Over Lyrics
Bruises, broken in pieces
Spread out ’til they didn’t exist
Losing sight of what’s decent
And too righteous to know what you didMaybe it’s just survival
Optimistic but blind
Maybe it’s just denial
Out of sight, out of mindBut it’s already over
And I don’t even know
Looking for a window
That I already closed
No matter how much I want it
How bad I’ve tried
Nothing’s there on the other side
It’s already overFloating in between places
Somewhere that the signal won’t work
Hoping you could be nameless
Washed off of the edge of the earthMaybe you’re just entitled
Unaware of your crime
Maybe it’s just denial
Out of sight, out of mindBut it’s already over
And I don’t even know
Looking for a window
That I already closed
No matter how much I want it
How bad I’ve tried
Nothing’s there on the other side
It’s already overMaybe it’s just denial
Out of sight
Out of mindIt’s already over
And I don’t even know
Looking for a window
That I already closed
No matter how much I want it
How bad I’ve tried
Nothing’s there on the other side
Over
And I don’t even know
Looking for a window
That I already closed
No matter how much I want it
How bad I’ve tried
Nothing’s there on the other side
Much I want it
How bad I’ve tried
Nothing’s there on the other side
It’s already over
