There’s a new album coming out early next year and The Early November give us a hint with their new single ‘About Me’. ‘We feeling this or what?’ Asks Ace Enders. Oh, we’re feeling it.

It drops straight into a sparkling introduction, the drums rolling nicely along with a solid bass line and guitars sprinkling the song’s motif across the top. The verse arrives at a powerful chorus – anthemic and full-bodied – as good as anything they’ve ever released (and I’ve never recovered from the brilliance of ‘Make It Happen’).

Writing this new TEN record was unique in a bunch of ways. It started with a small group of songs that I had written a few years back. They were much more angry and intense than the normal TEN songs.. which is why I probably sat on them.

I noticed that they stirred up a fire in me that I had all but forced out. Pent up frustration, feelings of self doubt, fear, intolerance, and an energy that was an undeniably louder voice than the one in my head, that was trying to convince me to give up on myself.

‘About me’ is one of the last songs written for the album. It’s not from a place of frustration within, but a calm after the storm. An understanding almost. It’s a bittersweet look at life told through the lens of a youthful heartbreak.

The final chorus doubles up on the beat, then switches it back half-way… a masterclass in making things pop. I love this band. I love this song. I can’t wait for the album.

About Me Lyrics

When I feel you pull away from me
Wish I could be myself without the honesty
From the note never left, every word ever sent
Wish that I could forget everything
Wish that I could forget everything

But I know you’re thinking about me
How you left me there in the dark
If you hear my name, are you lonely?
Does it let you heal like a scar?
‘Cause I know you’re thinking about me
When you hear that song in the car
Because you left me there like a movie
With these scars
But I know you’re thinking about me

Well, the past few weeks have been bittersweet
If I let myself decide what to believe
Everything will pass, the regret won’t last
But I wish I’d have known what you would need
I wish I’d have known what you would need

But I know you’re thinking about me
How you left me there in the dark
If you hear my name, are you lonely?
Does it let you heal like a scar?
‘Cause I know you’re thinking about me
When you hear that song in the car
Because you left me there like a movie
With these scars
But I know you’re thinking about me

Alright, alright
Everything is alright
Alright, alright
Now I’m saying goodbye
Alright, alright
Everything is alright
Alright, alright
Now I’m saying goodbye
Now I’m saying goodbye

But I know you’re thinking about me
How you left me there in the dark
If you hear my name, are you lonely?
Does it let you heal like a scar?
‘Cause I know you’re thinking about me
When you hear that song in the car
Because you left me there like a movie
With these scars
But I know you’re thinking about me
