Sun Don’t Shine
Cryptomnesia

The second release from Sun Don’t Shine certainly has fans of Type O Negative, Crowbar, and Silvertomb on the edge of their seats. As the Beatlesy intro gives way to a slow doomy masterpiece, I can tell they’ll be delighted by this track.

The slow riff in the verse turns into a descending chord progression in the chorus, creating an interesting atmosphere for the barbed lyrics. There’s some vocal sparring in the middle eight, and a switch for the final refrain, showing off the talent bundled into this supergroup.

The use of an acoustic intro/outro adds contrast to the song, and the unusually short two-line verses and some clever shifts within the song certainly make this an interesting release. Crucially, it shows that the band is developing their sound rather than doubling down on the excellent ‘Dreams Always Die With The Sun’.

Sun Don’t Shine are only two steps on the road to an album, but it’s two confident strides. I’m looking forward to what happens next.

Sun Don’t Shine changed their name from Eye Am in October 2024.

Cryptomnesia Lyrics

Your self-destruction has gone again
Resist the truth and the truth will win

And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back what’s mine
And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back…

Your selfish deceit will take you out
We suffer defeat and both calm down

And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back what’s mine
And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back what’s mine

Step in and repeat your failure soon it will all work out
You’re just a broken desperate child with a down-turned smile
You crown yourself with empty success, the fool pays out
I wish you knew your future to see where you are now

And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back what’s mine
And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back what’s mine

And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back what’s mine

And into your arms, I commend my life
And after you’re death I take back what’s mine
