Stand Atlantic
GIRL$
In collaboration with Lynn Gunn of PVRIS and Amalia Ramírez of Bruses, Stand Atlantic’s new single, ‘GIRL$’ brings a throbbing beat and thick guitars to a song about being attracted to women, but subject to the male gaze.
The song fits into the highly danceable end of the EMO spectrum, with liberal ripping out of the beat during the verses to make the chorus punch all the way through.
Thematically, you can feel there’s a story wrapped up into three verses of lyrics. Though it’s supposition on my part, you could read this song as a reply to the 1975’s song of the same name, which reads kinda awkward if you think through the lyrics.
I feel like the message of the song speaks for itself I wanted to show my appreciation for women and personally, my experience growing up knowing I was attracted to women but still feeling like I had to fit the mold of the male gaze, just based on the way I was influenced by a male-dominated society.
I hope other queer women and women in general resonate with this track, but also anyone in between. I wrote it for anyone who’s ever felt squashed by the strange and subtle pressures society can place on young people based off old-as-shit paradigms.
That being said, having Lynn (PVRIS) and Amalia (Bruses) on this track made it so much more meaningful to me personally. Both female, queer, and talented artists I respect so much.

The song is a stomping success and the fact it has some depth only enhances it.
The song will occupy the track-3 slot on Stand Atlantic’s next album, Was Here, which will drop on 23rd August 2024. You can pre-order a glow-in-the-dark green vinyl from Hopeless Records.
GIRL$ Music Video
Making this music video was a friggen gas. Me and Lynn both had the same idea independently of each other when she agreed to be on the track — ‘Let’s be old ladies.’ I’m sure people expected us all to be selling sex and queer-baiting the shit out of this — so we did what any rap video would do, but as old ladies.
