Cassyette - Over It

It’s been a busy month for Cassyette, who was (trivia alert) a co-writer of the intense and brilliant Irish Eurovision entry, ‘Doomsday Blue’ by Bambie Thug. Whatever you think of the competition itself, reject that and go listen to Cathexis, which is an awesome record.

As if that wasn’t enough for one month, Cassyette also dropped ‘Over It’, a sultry single that lets the vocal shine. The song’s theme is limerance; destructive romantic attractions that lead to melancholic and intrusive thought patterns.

The middle eight is my favourite part as the vocal just soars, then the chorus slams in, with its subtle semi-tonal transition that anchors the song to a darker edginess.

We’re only three months out from The World Fucking Sucks, which arrives on August 23rd, 2024.

Over It Lyrics

Some things I can’t undo (I wish I could)
‘Cause I’m bruised and so are you
Laying there in our room (I wish I could)
Are you thinking about me too?

Losing sleep every night
Troubled thoughts like parasites
I can’t stop them, I can’t hide
Though I try

I keep going over it over in my mind
But I’m not getting over it, over it
I put it all to bed and pretend that I don’t mind
But now I see you’re over it
Oh, I just can’t get over it, I

Sugarcoat my wounds in salt (I wish I could)
Tell me it’s all my fault
You don’t swallow any pride (I wish I could)
Wrapped in a web of lies

I keep going over it over in my mind
But I’m not getting over it, over it
I put it all to bed and pretend that I don’t mind
But now I see you’re over it
Oh, I just can’t get over it, I

You and I can’t be together
When you’re holding out for something better
Nothing ever lasts forever
But I’m holding on because

I keep going over it over in my mind
But I’m not getting over it, over it
I put it all to bed and pretend that I don’t mind
But now I see you’re over it
Oh, I just can’t get over it, I
