Pale Waves - Smitten

Pale Waves
Perfume

Jump to...

Let’s get straight to it. ‘Perfume’ is a wonderous dream pop track that arrives with three-month notice of their fourth studio album, Smitten.

The song has echoes of The Cure’s ‘Pictures of You’ and a melodic charm reminiscent of Dolores O’Riordan. The combination is rich and warm. The verse gives flickers of the first album, while the chorus is positively hypnotic. While some say the album is eighties-influenced, I’d probably put a pin in 1992/3 for this song.

‘Perfume’ is the perfect introduction into the new world we’ve created. It’s queer, feminine and romantic and it encapsulates the essence of Smitten.

Perfume Lyrics

My mother said when I want something I never let it go
Call me obsessed but I don’t mind just as long as it’s all mine
When I saw you I knew it was over
I just laid down and surrendered
Oh laying in the fields with you
Please tell me that we can we make this last forever
Forever

I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
My girl
I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
My world
My world yeah

Sleep beside me
Come and see my dreams my fears and stay right here
Taste me with your mouth
Believe me I can give you what you need
Your perfume on my skin
Can our love just begin
Won’t you let down your guard and walk into my arms

I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
My girl
I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
I wanna make, I wanna make you
My world
My world yeah
