Friends In Low Places

Jump to...

The last song to be written for This World Fucking Sucks (which arrives next month) ‘Friends In Low Places’ is a bit of a hazy summer anthem from Cassyette.

While the tune has that slow sandy heatwave feel, the lyrics focus on drinking and opioids alongside some particularly poetic metaphors. The song is melancholy but defiant. As you’d expect, the vocal is superb, utterly solid with fry around the edges – one of the canonical rock voices of our generation.

The song joins ‘Four Leaf Clover’, ‘Over It’, and ‘When She Told Me’ on the album.

[Friends In Low Places] felt like the final piece of the puzzle after writing a record about times of hardship, while grieving my dad, getting clean after struggling with addiction and ending a long term relationship.
This album needed Friends In Low Places to even exist in the first place. It’s because of those very important friends that continued to hold me up at every pitfall that I am even still here, and vice-versa.
I dedicate this song to those friends – they know who they are – as we’re so lucky to have each other throughout everything. I want people to dedicate this song to friends who have been there for them through times of hardship. This World Fucking Sucks but it definitely sucks a little less when we have friends around us to help hold us through those times. We are all in this together.

Friends in Low Places Lyrics

I got friends in low places
So we drink another bottle
Cos we ain’t going home tonight
Sad faces
So we tatted on a smile cos we can never make up our minds
Running through the woods
We’re way to slow
I don’t know which way we’re supposed to go?
Low places and when the sun don’t shine
Maybe it’s a state of mind?

Wuhooo wuhhooo wuhooo
Low places!
Wuhooo wuhhooo wuhooo
Low places!

Left the house and the beds a mess
Been so low yeah I must confess
Fix it all with a Percocet
Yeah
I’m so lucky that I’m still alive
Cos it’s not funny when I’m out my mind
But all I need are my ride or dies
Low
Take another pill to fix me when I’m ill
Low
Even when I cry I wanna get high

With my friends in low places
So we drink another bottle
Cos we ain’t going home tonight
Sad faces
So we tatted on a smile cos we can never make up our minds
Running through the woods
We’re way to slow
I don’t know which way we’re supposed to go?
Low places and when the sun don’t shine
Maybe it’s a state of mind?
Wuhooo wuhhooo wuhooo
Low places
Wuhooo wuhhooo wuhooo
Low places

In the back seat of a burning car
Only when we crash yeah we take it to far
Find me with a crack right through my heart
Low
Take another pill to fix me when I’m ill
Low
Even when I cry I wanna get high

With my friends in low places
So we drink another bottle
Cos we ain’t going home tonight
Sad faces
So we tatted on a smile cos we can never make up our minds
Running through the woods
We’re way to slow
I don’t know which way we’re supposed to go?
Low places and when the sun don’t shine
Maybe it’s a state of mind?

Wuhooo wuhhooo wuhooo
Low places
Wuhooo wuhhooo wuhooo
Low places
Low low low La La low low low
La La low low
low La La low
Low low low La La low low low
La La low low low La La low
(We’re all in)
Low places
