All In My Head / No Fun

Jump to...

There’s no doubt that One More Time is a special album and after a resurgent headline set at Reading Festival, blink-182 are back. By way of celebration, the album has been gifted an extended edition with 8 additional tracks.

‘All In My Head’ and ‘No Fun’ are the launchers for the extended album and represent a quarter of the new songs.

All In My Head

The subject of touring provides the theme for ‘All In My Head’, harking back to that line in ‘Adam’s Song’ that declared: ‘The tour was over, we’d survived,’ with the line: ‘This tour is trying to kill me’.

It begins with Hoppus declaring: ‘I’m a tiny speck of nothing and I’m the entire universe writ large.’ Then it breaks into a smooth verse with a great guitar line that gets the double-lead-vocal chorus treatment. DeLonge and Hoppus trade verses and middle-eight lines, too.

The song is so strong, it’s frankly amazing it didn’t make the original album track listing. The lyric video is below and we’ve added the lyrics to both songs to the end of the article.

No Fun

Like many of you, I expected a Stooges cover on the flip side of this single. If the song wasn’t famous enough as canonical proto-punk, the Sex Pistols version is as famous as the original. However, this is an original track, though it captures that early punk sentiment: ‘There’s no fun anymore, nothing to do, nothing to see’.

The song is semi-autobiographical, looking with nostalgia at how things started (sigh) at the end of the last century. This will land with the older audience… those who searched out the Cheshire Cat album when it was hard to get and followed the continual evolution of the band over more than three decades.

Whatever happened to us since the 90s?
When punk was independent, and then it wasn’t

For those blink-182 fans under the age of 40, you are just as welcome to enjoy this band. We’ll have no gatekeeping here just because you hadn’t managed to be born yet.

The song has a keyboard intro that’s part church organ part space movie soundtrack. The drums give ‘Anthem Part 2’ style flickers and the vocal is joined by increasing musical stabs before bursting into full life with the first verse. The rhythm of the words in the verse is ace and the lyrics are worth the reading time.

All In My Head Lyrics

I’m a tiny speck of nothing and I’m the entire universe writ large

This tour is trying to kill me
I wake up ready to fight, I shouldn’t talk about it
I got a sickening feeling
We do this night after night but now I start to doubt it
Lonely hotel rooms (Hotel rooms)
Cum stains on the couch (On the couch)

I’m moving on
But I’m still not giving up
I’m better now
But I’m still not good enough
I sleep alone
And it still hurts getting up
I’m freaking out, is it all in my head?

Have we been here before?
A ship far from the shore
Did you burn me in my bed?
Or is this all inside my head?

Never sleeping the night through
It was the end of the tour, I couldn’t talk about it
I’ve been drinking a lot too
That’s when I think that we’re good and when I start to vomit
Change the ending scene (Ending scene)
Watch some porn and sing (Porn and sing)
Go

I’m moving on
But I’m still not giving up
I’m better now
But I’m still not good enough
I sleep alone
And it still hurts getting up
I’m freaking out, is it all in my head?

Have we been here before?
A ship far from the shore
Did you burn me in my bed?
Or is this all inside my head?

All in my head
All in my head
All in my head (All in my head)…

I’m moving on
But I’m still not giving up
I’m better now
But I’m still not good enough
I sleep alone
And it still hurts getting up
I’m freaking out, is it all in my head?

Have we been here before?
A ship far from the shore
Did you burn me in my bed?
Or is this all inside my head?

No Fun Lyrics

It’s gotten crazy as a heart attack
At a rich girl’s party but I’m stuck out back
I’m locked outside, inside my mind
I’ve got to know, is this my life?
We saw the summer in our photographs
Planned out the future, said we won’t look back
Now all that news, that dream ain’t true
So, hey, fuck me, and fuck you too

The days are so dramatic, a little tragic
Whatever happened to us since the 90s?
When punk was independent, and then it wasn’t
When everyone became a part of that scene
The intеrnet was taking off
Showing off a thousand other millionaires and siliconе things
Fuck, we really set it off, and pissed them off
Touring in the band when I was only eighteen

If you wanna try again, now and then you’re alone
But no longer eighteen, I know you’re nervous sometimes
It’s a game, do you know what I mean?

There’s no fun anymore
Nothing to do, nothing to see
No fun anymore
Everyone’s bored ’cause we cut off their wings
No fun anymore

Your plan was overrated and when you made it
‘Cause you were young, you wouldn’t know a damn thing
A marriage simulated, will get deflated
The friends you have will have a kid and never be seen
Your job is never good enough or cool enough
There’s never passion in a deadly routine
Secretly I say it, yeah, I’ll admit it
I kind of think that I just did the same thing

If you wanna try again, now and then you’re alone
But no longer eighteen, I know you’re nervous sometimes
It’s a game, do you know what I mean?

There’s no fun anymore
Nothing to do, nothing to see
No fun anymore
Everyone’s bored ’cause we cut off their wings
No fun anymore
Changing the drug, leaving the speed
No fun anymore
And everything sucks when you’re swimming upstream
No fun anymore
