Bitters
Can’t Think Straight EP

Jump to...

Yes, admittedly I said: ‘We might get another single or two before it lands.’ It turns out I was entirely wrong. The new Bitters EP, Can’t Think Straight, is here. Well, it’s an EP that shows the many sonic facets of the Bitters diamond.

The EP kicks off with recent fuzz pop single ‘Forgive/Forget’, and remains pop-guitary with ‘Local Celebrity’. After this, there are some vibe switches. ‘Wish You The Best’ has a strong Garbage vibe, it’s far more subversive in sound.

Frosty synth powers ‘Peppermint’, just a few swirls and a subtle guitar motif join as things build into an emotive track along the lines of Natalie Imbruglia’s lesser-known debut album tracks.

The EP closes with the synth bass pump of ‘Alice’. This track is like Chvrches with an eighties pop twist. The song is punchy and has a big chorus.

Themes of Can’t Think Straight

We’re in biographical territory on this EP. The lyrics are fueled by breakups, people talking trash, and moving on. These themes are expressed in different ways and through those varied styles at play on the EP. Sometimes things are defiant and other times it’s more broken.

I hope you feel the same sense of vulnerability, feminine sasssss and queer venom come through when you listen to these songs that I felt writing them.

Claudia Mills

All the emotion comes through on the record. Songs sound better when there’s bite and though of course, we want the best for our fellow humans… when things haven’t gone well, it’s nice to share that feeling through songs that have captured that moment. Sad songs, angry songs, and bitter songs help us feel less lonely.

Alice Lyrics

Oh Alice yeah I thought you were mine
’til you walked out the door, said you don’t got the time
Yeah you’re dangerous, but I knew that
Oh Alice yeah I thought we were fine
’til you walked out the door, like you just changed your mind
And I’m curious, how’d you do that?

Keep messing with my head
Oh why did you call me? Were you just lonely, alone in bed?
And every time I hear your name
I let it affect me, I let you reject me
It’s such a shame cause I could show you love

If you let me
I could show you real real love
If you let me
I could show you real love

Oh Alice, bet you could feel the same
People try to get in but you push them away
What’s the deal with that? Why you running?
Oh Alice it was just yesterday that you came to my house
Said you wanted to stay, now you’re going back
Give me something

Keep messing with my head
Oh why did you call me? Were you just lonely, alone in bed?
And every time I hear your name
I let it affect me, I let you reject me
It’s such a shame cause I could show you love

If you let me
I could show you real real love
If you let me
I could show you real love

So what am I gonna do
Why don’t you let me come come in closer
Cause this could be something good
Alice, let me love ya
So what am I gonna do
Why don’t you let me come come in closer
Cause this could be something good
Alice, let me love ya

Let me love ya, let me love ya
Let me love ya, let me love ya
Oh Alice yeah I thought we were fine
Oh Alice maybe you’ll change your mind

If you let me
I could show you real real love
If you let me
I could show you real love

So what am I gonna do
Why don’t you let me come come in closer
Cause this could be something good
Alice, let me love ya
So what am I gonna do
Why don’t you let me come come in closer
Cause this could be something good
Alice, let me love ya
