The Nightmares
Dead Roses
Arriving with the news of a new album called Fire In Heaven, ‘Dead Roses’ provides an unexpectedly shimmering track from The Nightmares. This song will join ‘Something In The Dark’ on the album.
That explosion of sparkle is held back for the first X seconds in favour of an acoustic guitar with a fuzzy jangling soundbed. The pre-chorus is where the velvety softness envelops you, giving me some Echo and the Bunnymen flashes alonside The Nightmares noir-pop sound.
Parslow and Coburn share the vocals throughout the track and their vocals work well together. The song has a bit of an indie vibe, with the drum beat even giving us a hint of James. Despite all these facets, they still maintain a suitably dark atmospheric effect, especially through the lyrics.
Dead Roses’ is a song that explores how a single thought or observation can trigger a deep-set emotional reaction inside one’s self. How something as trivial as a discarded rose on the ground can transport you back to a time in your life when something traumatic happened to you. Life can sometimes lead us into a false sense of emotional security – only to strike us down like a dagger in the night when we least expect it… ‘Dead Roses’ is a song that explores those emotions, anxieties and fears.
Adam Parslow
The album lands on Valentine’s Day in the UK, 14th February, 2025. Perhaps ‘Dead Roses’ will be the subculture love anthem of that season.

Dead Roses Lyrics
Dead roses laying in the street,
Form some awkward painful symmetry,
Exposes how I really feel,
When I’m walking past your cemeteryWhat if I’d prayed?
Maybe you’d have stayed,
What if I beg?
Maybe I’ll forget.I’ve been led astray,
Chewed up and spat away.Dead roses hanging on my wall,
I’m still waiting here for you to call,
Each dosage makes me feel so weak.
I’m just trying to blackout, honestly. What if I’d prayed?
Maybe you’d have stayed.I’ve been led astray,
Chewed up and spat away,
Spun up in your web,
Laying lifeless in my bed,
I’ve been led astray.I can’t be alone with my own thoughts without you home,
Can you hear me, loud and clearly?I’ve been led astray,
Chewed up and spat away,
Spun up in your web,
Laying lifeless in my bed,
I’ve been led astray. You left me with a heavy heart now I’ll think of you forever…
