Strap youselves in for genre crossover that spans everything from melodic rock to visceral black metal, with pop, rock, metal, and goth elements creating a compelling, doomy, and danceable sound.

Cassyette’s latest single, a complete reimagining of Gaga’s recent single ‘Disease’ (October, 2024) starts with a belting rock vocal over long low growling tones with just a hint of a lead guitar. It then drops an industrial dance beat with a deep narrator-voice vocal, continually shifting the song into sections that include deep throaty screams, banshee wail screams, haunting melodies, and then all of these at once.

With all these twists and turns it could be total chaos, but it’s not. It’s coherent and damned enjoyable. It’s visceral at times, but it’s dark and beautiful, too. Cassyette definitely makes this kind of crossover work, like the throbbing ‘Boom’ or the smoldering ‘IPECAC’.

Lyrically, I suspect things are less medicinal than they first appear. ‘I could play the doctor, I could cure your disase,’ it begins. But though there may be latex-free gloves involved I don’t think it refers to that kind of examination. ‘Lay you down like one, two, three / eyes roll back in ecstasy,’ the listener can decide what all this means.

Compared to the original, a bunch of lyrics have been tossed aside to focus on the chorus and it’s many manifestations. Musically, things are just as different. Both versions could fill a dancefloor, just at different clubs.

Disease Lyrics

I could play the doctor, I can cure your disease
If you were a sinner, I could make you believe
Lay you down like one, two, three
Eyes roll back in ecstasy
I can smell your sickness, I can cure your
Cure your disease

(Male vocal)
There are no more tears to cry
I heard you beggin’ for life
Runnin’ out of medicine
You’re worse than you’ve ever been

You’re so tortured when you sleep
Plagued with all your memories
You reach out, and no one’s there
Like a god without a prayer

(Ah-ah) Screamin’ for me, baby
(Ah-ah) Like you’re gonna die
(Ah-ah) Poison on the inside
I could be your antidote tonight

I could play the doctor, I can cure your disease
If you were a sinner, I could make you believe
Lay you down like one, two, three
Eyes roll back in ecstasy
I can smell your sickness, I can cure your
Cure your disease

(Ah-ah)
(Ah-ah)

Bring me your desire, I can cure your disease
If you were a sinner, I could make you believe
Lay you down like one, two, three
Eyes roll back in ecstasy
I know all your secrets, I can cure your
Cure your disease

Lay you down like one, two, three
Eyes roll back in ecstasy
I can smell your sickness, I can cure your
Cure your disease
(Ah-ah)
Cure your disease
(Ah-ah)
Cure your disease
