The Nightmares - Hell Is Gonna Happen

Hell Is Gonna Happen

Jump to...

We’ve had several singles from The Nightmares to foreshadow their new album, and they’ve all been stunners. ‘Hell Is Gonna Happen’ is deceptively sweet sounding, with some twists in the lyrics to remind us of the romantic tragedy the band conjures.

If you break down the elements, you’d map each back to an eighties reference, yet the ideas aren’t just lifted and shifted. They’ve been through a process. They’ve been ingested and transformed, arriving in a new and wondrous whole.

‘Hell Is Gonna Happen’ is an up-tempo track. The beat creates a flow for the bass to pump along and the barritone guitars to add their threads. It’s like Deacon Blue meets The Cure via Kim Wilde (thanks to that bass) and it works really well.

It’s a song for those who feel luckless in life. For people who feel like life never goes their way. Hell Is Gonna Happen is about embracing the chaos in life and following the path set for us – no matter how uncertain. It’s about finding beauty in disaster and chasing your dreams.

Now, we’re a bit behind right now, so we’re catching up with the backlog and the fact there’s another single from The Nightmares in the stack is highly motivating!

Hell Is Gonna Happen Lyrics

I can’t believe my luck
Like I was hit by a ten-tonne truck
You’re my new disorder
Just what the coroner ordered
Haven’t slept for three long days
Curtains closed so no sunrays
I can’t help but sit and miss you
You left me with this burning issue

You tore my heart in two
One piece for me
One piece for you
You left it black and blue
What can I say?
What can I do?
Thanks to you

Thanks to you
Thanks to you
Thanks to you

Hell is gonna happen
Everything that we imagined
Waging war on all my senses
Letting go of my defences
The tables turn, the cigarette burns
An age-old trust, a teenage lust
You let guard down, save yourself
You left your mark, erase yourself

You tore my heart in two
One piece for me
One piece for you
You left it black and blue
What can I say?
What can I do?
Thanks to you

Thanks to you

Hell is gonna happen
Everything that we imagined
Waging war on all my senses
Letting go of my defences
Thanks to you
