This song slams down a smouldering beat right at the start and pops and fizzes right the way through. Wynona Bleach have punched out a surprising track with ‘Tangerine’.
The song is about crushing on someone you can’t have and that drives all the song’s elements. The temperature is maintained right through to the soulful ending. The band have been experimenting with influences, looking for something in the merging of Phil Collins and Type O Negative. ‘Tangerine’ certainly has a Collins reference in the final moments with the chorus vocals overlaying the main melody. I’ll be interested to see how they surface Type O Negative on their album – the pace would need to be even slower than this to get into that doomy space.
In any case, ‘Tangerine’ is a solid tune and I’m looking forward to hearing what their long player has in store.
