Envy of None
Stygian Waves
Envy of None are a Toronto band that brings an exciting sound that brings world influences into a rock sound. ‘Stygian Waves’ is our first taste of the band, but by no means their first single. The song comes from their epic debut album, which is named for this track (though stylized on the cover as stij(ē)ən wāvz and in various references to Stygian Wavz).
The quickest way to describe the song, and admittedly this lacks the depth of reference, is to suggest a mix of Kula Shaker and The Cranberries. ‘Sound of Drums’ meets ‘Dreams’ if you will. The track is highly musical, develops around the theme with the feel of jam, but the precision of something well practiced.
Sonically, the song is fantastic. The clarity of every intricate detail makes the song sparkle like snow catching the first rays of dawn. Then there’s the hypnotic vocal to tie it all together. Or, perhaps it’s best in their own words…
This track is a favourite of all 4 EONs. Despite the fact of the spartan lyrical content, this song features our sweet Maiah on lead vocals. Her harmonies and layers of vocals are literally symphonic! It’s hard to put a finger on what style or genre this one is… and we’re proud of that!

This song has made me curious to listen to the album, stij(ē)ən wāvz is out now, so why not have a listen with me.
