The Most Terrifying Thing

The Most Terrifying Thing
Things Always Change

‘The Most Terrifying Thing are deserving of your ears’ drools their press officer, who may or may not be wearing a Hannibal mask and uncorking a nice Chianti. Oh scary man, we needs our ears! All the better to listen to TMTT’s long player ‘Victoriana’ which must be a treat if this single is any guide.

The Liverpool foursome aren’t quite the most rip-roaring rockers I’ve heard this year – that honour would have to go to Zero Point Field – but are definitely in the frame. They know first impressions count – ‘Things Always Change’ opens with a descending starburst of a guitar lick and never slackens.

This song would have comfortably held its own with anything from the post-Seattle boom of the early 90s and singer Pricey’s cultured howl has more warmth and character than the average rock yelper. He and his empathetic band meld perfectly.

A big, single-riff beast, bearing the DNA of Zeppelin and grunge with a melodic kink, ‘Things Always Change’ has real earworm quality and bespeaks (gadzooks!) a band who should go far.
