The Beefcake Project
Explosion in the Test Chamber
Right, I’ve written this review three times already and had to delete it cos it was basically as if a Tourette’s sufferer had written it on a bad day. Apologies to Beefcake Project for the delay though. Think of a random excuse and times it by ten.
Let’s get it out of the way first off, The Beefcake Project play covers and, whilst some would describe the set list as ‘eclectic’, I just think it’s plain weird. Personal preferences and all that, it starts off promisingly with Spinal Tap’s ‘Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You’ but unfortunately, for me at least, that’s about where it ended.
Don’t get me wrong, judging by the bands bio it does appear as if they are an amazing live band and but you can’t tell why from the CD. Sure, the songs are performed well enough, but it just doesn’t transform into a CD that you want to put on again (and again).
It then has some Tenacious D style moments, with various bits of chat and stuff, again though, probably due to the songs played, it just didn’t interest me in the slightest. I’d tell you some more about the CD, but in all honesty, I really haven’t got anything good to say about it.
I’m sure on a Friday night, down a pub/club/abattoir, these guys come into their own, it just doesn’t port across to CD format as it’s far too random. It’s like someone giving you a packet of your favourite biscuits, only to open them and find that some bugger has removed all the middle and replaced it with lard. For die-hard fans, then it’s probably right up their street, unfortunately, I must live in a cul-de-sac.
I’ve prepped the postman to look out for suspicious packages, and any wires sticking out of them….just on the off-chance.
