Kalinsky
If You Will
Kalinsky are a pop-rock combo with a slick sound and oodles of catchy songwriting skills. ‘If You Will’ contains the first three songs written by this recently formed band.
‘If You Will’ has a chunky guitar intro followed by a restrained verse and clever build up to the chorus. The backing vocals in the second chorus could have been a bit tighter, but that detail doesn’t take anything away from a very chart-worthy two minute track.
‘Take Me Away’ features a woody-sounding bass and 80’s distorted guitars. This is another decent song, perhaps not quite the same calibre as the opener due to the retrospective feel.
Final track ‘Better Without You’ is an emotional rocker with a Jimmy Eat World intro and an Allister-style chorus.
There is definately something worth nuturing in Kalinsky. The song-writing has enough sense to throw in hooks and stops wherever possible. The musical ability of the band, while not without the need for a bit of work, is good enough to stand up to the songs.
