Deceits are building up to a long-player and this is the second taste of their debut album, the first being ‘Drowning in an Empty Sea’. What post-punk delights will echo forth? Let’s find out.
The guitar motif gets a heartbeat before the full band kicks in and the instrumental intro sets the scene for the song. The verse has an appropriate poetic flourish with a dark twist in the pre-chorus, with the sparse call of ‘Oh! Those constant regrets!’. The chorus is stuffed full of regret and ends with a high bark.
Sonically, there is undoubtedly a strong leaning towards their influences, but the songwriting is original. They lean into the sound and tone, but their compositions differ. It’s a killer combination as it’s both new and nostalgic all at once.
I love this track. The early signs suggest the album is shaping up to be a great listen.
