Make Your Excuses / Moving Targets
Recorded just five weeks before the tragic death of John MacIsaac, the lead singer of Mach Schau, this single comes from the studio recording for what was to be the band’s new album.
‘Make Your Excuses’ mixes John’s vocal, which sounds like a cross between Chris Perrin and Joe Strummer, with a funked-up bass and the kind of guitars that drove the two-tone scene. The guitar pairing does a good job of covering different ground, creating a thick and creamy rock sound with a classy retro tone. The key element to this song is the tempo, which allows plenty of room for groove.
‘Moving Targets’ uses the same combination of sounds with a faster pace, really evoking the 80s flavours via the music and adding a bit more rock via the vocals.
It’s another great record from this band, with an edge of sadness for the loss.
