August Dispatch: Music on Repeat vol. 8

Summer. Summer. Summertime is ending and we don’t feel any sadness. As usual, I’ve talked to the team to give you the best music we’ve been keeping on repeat in the last three months – and I can assure you it’s nothing but bangers.
Meeting the team before we kick our autumn endeavours into overdrive is always delightful since it’s become a habit to discuss music festivals first and… just like last year, we’ve been everywhere. From Primavera Sound, Download or Reading. This year I was putting my Glastonbury thoughts down as the event went along and did the same for London’s All Points East.
In any case, despite summer always being our slow and lazy period, we still listened to great stuff so here’s what I discussed with the team this time.
Sophie Powers – Bathroom Floor
Sophie Powers’ ‘Bathroom Floor’, from the new album Glitch: Lvl 1 (2024), is an amazing example of how you can love the sound and hate the lyrics.
I can’t deny keeping the song on my favourite list and I’m not the only one. It’s a great mix that packs a powerful story behind its creation – Sophie’s own experience of suffering from ARFID.

Beabadoobee – Take a Bite
Beabadoobee has been busy from playing many gigs and festivals to releasing new music.
The new album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves (2024), hit us with some bangers, ‘Take a Bite’ is one of the cases.
It’s a classic example of a hit. A hit the band play at a small venue and turn it into an intimate experience or go full on the guitar experience and make your festival day a completely different one.

Good Terms – Hear Me Out
Ah, the soothing intro followed by the blistering precision. Good Terms deliver high-quality great music and ‘Hear Me Out’ continues their run of aces.
The lyrics are a sharp emotional note to someone. I expect they knew who they were when they heard this song for the first time.

Pale Waves – Perfume
We couldn’t be more excited about the new Pale Waves album and adding just one of the three singles to this list doesn’t do justice to how often we play all of them.
However, ‘Perfume’ is a great choice for a song to embed deeply in your playlist.
Fontaines D.C. – Here’s the Thing
We’re still vibing thanks to Fontaines D.C. Glastonbury 2024 performance and got two new singles out this month. The other one is ‘In the Modern World’.
Could things be better? Yes. And they’ll be even better on the 23rd of August when the full album is out.
As for the single, it’s a little creepy mystery.
There’s more good news – the band are on tour so whenever you are, keep an eye on tickets. They go fast.

The Early November – The Empress
This turned out to be an absolute classic and I can’t stop playing it! ‘The Empress’ is a perfect TEN song and opens for their recent eponymous album.
This isn’t leaving the playlist any time soon.

Wunderhorse – Rain
Wunderhorse were recommended to me by a colleague and I have to say they’re surprisingly good.
‘Rain’, from their upcoming album, is a solid choice for everyone who loves indie rock and rock music as such.

Poppy – New Way Out
We’ve started laughing whenever we call another artist a queen of dark Pop(py) because there’s more than one woman who deserves it. Poppy undoubtedly is one of them.
‘New Way Out’ is a good song that deserves its spot in the dispatch’s sunlight. It’s, after all, a good reminder that you don’t have to specialise in one to excel at everything.

Die So Fluid -Dispute
Die So Fluid’s fan-funded album, Skin Hunger, has now hit 150% of its goal, and if we get more tracks like ‘Dispute’ you’ve all spent your money well.
This band has a great angular signature sound. Love it.

Puma Theory – Sobering Lights
I believe we said everything important in the previous Dispatch and the review of ‘Sobering Lights’.
Puma Theory have a potential we want to see it realised.
Also, updates on live gigs would be nice.
