Langugage of a Lady
I have to put my hand up to the fact that I didn’t like these chaps when I saw them at Brighton Live, but that was back in September 2006 and I’m not one to let a single performance stop me from having another listen. I’m even putting aside the inner groan I issue when I hear the band name!
As it happens, this record is actually quite good. ‘Language of a Lady’ is alright, with a jangly guitar and a bouncy beat that hints at a south-coast Kaiser Chiefs.
However, it’s ‘Saturday Night’ that grabs my attention on this record. It’s got something a little bit different going on. It’s got a touch of chaos that keeps it right on the edge, with the guitar firing up an unhinged step-up riff to distort the lines of the song. The vocal does an important job of keeping the melody thin and sounding entirely unhinged.
This is it, this is the excitement they needed to capture to impress me.
