Letting It All Go

We’re playing catch up with The Nightmares. As you’ve probably seen, we’ve been busy this month with lots of new music being pulled into our orbit. With Fire In Heaven now out, we’re giving their Valentine’s day single ‘Letting It All Go’ a spin.

The song is about ditching everything that’s holding you back, leaving your safe space, and trusting in love. Feel free to go ‘awwwww’. As it’s The Nightmares, though, it all comes with some metaphorical lyrical art around the subject matter, though the chorus brings a solid moment with the line: ‘Hand in hand we all fall down. Where we land is where I’m staying now. We’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out””

The piano pedals a note, then adds a cascade before the full band joins. The verse has a nice twist of a descending chord progression. The post chorus feels like a middle-eight, but there’s a proper one of those later and these often replace verses. Essentially, they take familiar things and add a little surprise to them.

Sonically, it’s an upbeat sounding song with downbeat though hopeful lyrics, a bit of a theme with recent singles like ‘Hell is Gonna Happen’ and ‘Dead Roses’. That’s not to say the recent songs all hit this zone as ‘Something In The Dark’ is ominous and brooding throughout.

This brings us to four out of eleven tracks for Fire In Heaven. We’ll give the full long player a spin shortly.

Letting It All Go Lyrics

Find me a quiet place to cry
This sentimental heart won’t die
It flashes like strobes, feelings come in droves
That pretty place is all I know

I wear my heart on my sleeve and I’m running
It’s getting hard to believe in nothing
But we’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out
Letting it all go
Hand in hand we all fall down
Where we land is where I’m staying now
We’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out
Letting it all go
Letting it all go

She’s been looking for Jesus
(She’s been looking for Jesus)
All her life (all her life)
When they turn on the big light
(When they turn on the big light)
Will she be happy with the sight?

I wear my heart on my sleeve and I’m running
It’s getting hard to believe in nothing
But we’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out
Letting it all go
Hand in hand we all fall down
Where we land is where I’m staying now
We’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out
Letting it all go

It hit me like a heart attack
Because if we leave now, then is there any way we’ll make it back?
It hit me like a heart attack
If it’s me and you against the world then I’m okay with that

I wear my heart on my sleeve and I’m running
It’s getting hard to believe in nothing
But we’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out
Letting it all go
Hand in hand we all fall down
Where we land is where I’m staying now
We’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out
Letting it all go
